SLIME IN THE ICE MACHINE, INSECTS OR PESTS IN THE SAUCE, ROACH AND RODENT ISSUES… THAT’S WHAT A STATE INSPECTOR FOUND INSIDE VERDI’S LAST WEEK. THE RESTAURANT HAS BEEN A SOUTH FLORIDA INSTITUTION FOR CLOSE TO 40 YEARS AND A FAVORITE OF THE LATE JACKIE GLEASON.

VIOLATIONS

“Critical. Ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food prepared on site and held more than 24 hours with not properly date marked, cooked meats in reachin and walkin. Repeat Violation.”

“Critical. Observed food stored on floor, torn bag with flour.”

“Critical. Observed evidence of employee smoking in food preparation or other non-designated area, by coffee station, ashes and remnants of cigarettes in ashtrays.”

“Multiuse food-contact surface not smooth, free of breaks/cracks/chips/pits/crevices, plates and bowls.”

“Observed cutting board grooved/pitted and no longer cleanable.”

“Observed nonfood-grade containers used for food storage, garbage bags used to store ready to eat rolls/breads.”

“Observed nonfood-contact equipment in poor repair, walkin freezer’s door.”

“Observed walk-in freezer gasket torn/in disrepair.”

“Critical. Observed buildup of slime in the interior of ice machine. Repeat Violation.”

“Critical. Observed food-contact surfaces encrusted with grease and/or soil deposits, shelves on wall and table next to icemachine, cart in kitchen area, cutting boards.”

“Critical. Observed interior of reach-in cooler soiled with accumulation of food residue by wait station.”

“Observed build-up of grease on nonfood-contact surface, cooking equipment.”

“Observed gaskets with slimy/mold-like build-up, Beverage Air reachin cooler.”

“Observed single-service articles stored without protection from contamination, tin foil containers infront of cookline.”

“Critical. Handwash sink not accessible for employee use at all times in kitchen.”

“Critical. No handwashing sign provided at a handsink used by food employees in kitchen.”

“Critical. Handwashing cleanser lacking at handwashing sink in kitchen.”

“Critical. Observed objectionable odors in ladies’ bathroom.”

“Critical. Observed dead roaches on premises, 5 in water by steamtable next to icemachine, numerous in light shield over reachin cooler next to icemachine, 1 on wall next to shelves in dishwashing area. This violation must be corrected by : 12/2/10.

“Critical. Observed rodent activity as evidenced by rodent droppings found, 6 moist in reachin cooler infront of cookline with ready to eat foods, 4 on shelf by coffee station, over 25 moist on food packages, saucers and tomato cans in upstairs dry food storage room in kitchen area. This violation must be corrected by : 12/2/10.”

“Critical. Observed roach activity as evidenced by live roaches found 2 on counter next to icemachine infront of prep area, 5 on shelves next to icemachine, 1 on wall infront of reachin cooler next to dining room area, 1 on cookline, 6 on wall by handwashing sink in kitchen. This violation must be corrected by : 12/2/10.”

“Critical. Observed small flying insects by wait station next to icemachine.”

Critical. Observed the presence of insects, other pests in ready to eat sauce on steamtable. (Operator discard). Corrected On Site.”

“Observed worn, torn and/or soiled floors/carpeting, in dining room.”

“Observed grease accumulated under cooking equipment.”

“Observed wall soiled with accumulated food debris in kitchen.”

“No suitable facilities provided to store employee clothing and other possessions.”

“Critical. Observed toxic item on premise that is not required for the operation of establishment, household roach and ant spray in dishwashing area.”

“Critical. Observed toxic item stored on shelf next to and above sanitized containers in dishwashing area.”

“Critical. No proof of required employee training provided. All public food service establishments must provide the division with proof of employee training upon request, including, but not limited to, at the time of any division inspection of the establishment.   1. This restaurant should be closed down until repairs and violations are corrected. I will spread the word not to eat there.
